Do you allow your dog or cat to eat the food we eat?

Everyone who has pets treats them differently. I personally treat my dogs like kids rather than animals. My dogs eat table food and leftovers instead of me throwing them away. We also on occasion cook certain things that the dogs like and we give it to them. Some people say its healthy if you cook it boiled or baked and i am sure they are correct. I know a few people who only feed vegetables to their dogs. This is a little hard for me to understand and agree with. Dogs are members of the wolf family and they require meat in their diets exclusively. I am not saying rice and other starch don't count but they are natural to eating meat. What do you think? Do you feed your dog regular food?

Hi Jkeyz2. I currently don't have any cats or dogs living with me, my 2 cats stay with my parents on their farm since when I got married I found out my husband is seriously allergic to cats!

Anyway when I had dogs and cats living with me mostly we fed them the proper pet food from the vet but we also spoiled them every now and then. Like with left overs and our one dog just loved some bread so we would often give him some as a treat.

My one cat loved chips and if ever you opened a packet of chips he would be there to share!

Yes maybe it is not the best for your pets health to have treats but they love it so much.

Its kind of funny because we have the same choice. We know what to eat thats good for us and we know whats bad for us. Will a dog be happier if he gets steak absolutely it will make that dog happy as can be. I am deathly allergic to cats as well my throat swells up and i get all itchy everywhere. My dogs are like kids they eat anything including the dog food that given to them. I think its so funny that your cat is a chip bandit hahahahaha! My dog goes crazy for ice pops i mean like super crazy! When i go to the freezer Prince my little guy starts to run around the kitchen like a chicken without a head. He also gets up on his hind legs and starts to beg. Some people don't like it but i think its the cutest thing in the world. Thanks for sharing Lynne as always i appreciate your time.

It's so funny you mentioned that about your dogs being like kids! As I have two huge outdoor Persian mix male cats that were exactly like this! They ate literally EVERYTHING they could. And, it never seemed like enough for these big boys! Just eat! eat! eat! On more than one occasion, I'd come into the kitchen in the morning time and find the fridge door wide open and half my food on the floor with cat chew marks all over it. Do you allow your dog or cat to eat the food we eat? And, i kid you not, the biggest one was at least 20 pounds. One time, I tried to pick him up and literally my arm ached the rest of the day. :/

Oh my word a dog liking ice pops? That is so funny Jkeyz2!

Yeah sounds like you are very much like my hubby. I miss my cats dearly and I have been judged by so many people for "giving them up" but I didn't give them up they are with my parents on a huge farm and they love it there.

Even so, who knows what my choice might have been if that option was not open to me. Let my husband suffer all day and night? He couldn't sleep a wink at night when the cats were here Do you allow your dog or cat to eat the food we eat? Or let my boys go?

Tough choice and I am glad that my parents could take them. I cried for days but they are happier than when they were with me! So it ended up well for everyone except for me that misses them.

Hey i am sure you husband is very thankful to you lol. I am very allergic its super bad for me to be around cats. Houses with rugs even if they are cleaned are probably death for me. Within 1-2 hours of being in a clean house with cats my face starts to itch, my neck and chin get itchy, and my eyes water to the point that i cant even open them. The best thing is that you gave them to someone you trust and they are living a great life on a big piece of land. Cats are so curious and they like to get into things the best part is that you did the rite thing. Thanks for sharing i appreciate it.

Sure, why not.my little puppy eats left over from our foods and she enjoys it.

We sometimes cook her own food to complement her food eaten from the crumbs off the table. So yes she eat from our foods too.

I currently don't have a dog anymore, but I had one around all my life and yes, table food was perfectly fine, except certain chicken bones that may damage their insides, you have to be careful with those!
Everything else was on the menu and if the dog didn't like it, well I always had dog food lying around so no problem there. But usually all my dogs would prefer eating table leftovers than eating dog food, pretty strange actually, I've tried buying them more expensive dog food in the hope they will get the taste of it, but no, they always want to eat what I eat.

I think its because its more fresh. Try taking some dog food and sprinkling a little bit of water on it and then put it in the microwave for 8-10 seconds and it will bring out more of a smell. Your dog will go crazy for this, i have seen dogs that will not eat any dog food at all. The only way to get them to eat it is to trick them and put their food in a pan on the stove and pretend you are cooking it. What happen to your dog? Would you ever own one again? Thanks for sharing i appreciate your time.

Were on the same boat. I don't give chicken bones to my dogs because once the chicken bones broke, it was really sharp. I do not let them eat chocolates too as per advice of my vet doctor. Thy don't really like dog food so I gave them raw meat and chicken liver. If there is a left over food, I let them eat it except sea food.

i dont usually like to give our dogs table food because then they sit right next to you while you eat and stare, and i hate that! LOL although i will give my dogs some special treats on occasion, but when i do i make sure im not sitting g at the kitchen table!

i had a dog once that would eat anything, literally. he would find dust bunnies and hair (mostly mine because i shed like a dog! hahaha) and then would cough it up like a cat.....cat trapped in a dog's body!!! LOL

Usually my dog only eats his dog food. My sister and I decided that when he was a puppy, due to the fact it was the best recommended according to his Vet. The only issue is that our dog always try to get some of our food, sure he must like the smell of it. But we work really hard on not give him regular people food, we do give him his dog treats and cookies. The only moment he had our food, was when he got a stomach infection, he stayed at my parents and drank rain water, in that moment, the Vet stopped his dog food, and we had to cook white rice and chicken breast for him. The hard part was to change him again from rice and chicken to his dog cookies. So do yourself a favor, don't even let your pet taste your food, he/she will love it and you will be in trouble.

It's a part of my dogs diet, i mix rice and dog foods together. My pets love it, i research the bad and good food for dogs, i cook for them without a harmful indrigents.Sometimes a buy a raw meat or scrap meat for them, it's a healthy diet for them.I think that so much dog food is not good for them, they need a raw food or real food sometimes. Its expensive but its a part of having a pet, if you want him to be healthy you need to spend money.

Yes of course, I definitely do feed my dog not only dog food but literally everything that I eat and it's pretty obvious that he enjoys eating them as well. In fact, it makes it look even more healthy than some human beings out there in the society.

There is no point in throwing away left over food when it is a very good meal to pets especially dogs and cats. These two pet can actually eat 95 percent of anything being consumed by humans and it won't have any side effects on them but rather it would be an added benefit to them.

I have no problem allowing my dog eat from my dinning table as long as he comports himself and behave, if not I would still dish it out for him in his eating bowl but anywhere he found the food it's enjoyable to him.

I always see my grandmom that has a dog giving the meal to her dog to eat. She always prepares rice and stew for the dog and the dog has formed the habit of eating that particular food, so I do not see anything bad in allowing the dog to eat the food we eat as long as taking such won't affect their health conditions.

I don't own a dog yet, but if I would have one in the future, I will not prepare a separate food for it for eating the food I eat is another way to save cost and make the dog feel comfortable in our environment.

I do allow them to eat the food that we usually serve especially on my dog. My dog just can eat anything that we human can also eat and probably I think its the reason we my dog grows so fast and I don't even know why. For example, I just feed him with anything that we eat for dinner.

Our current dog is a picky eater. Yeah, Right just like a kid. So there came a day when she no longer wants to eat dog food. So we decided to let her eat a variety of food the we also eat. And it works for her. I remembered my dog when I was a kid, since she grew up with me and my sisters, she would hang around us and whenever we eat, she would always beg and she will eat whatever food we give her. I remembered eating a Yam bean (Jicama--looks like a turnip)and she's drooling all over begging for a taste. And so we gave her a piece. We were surprised that she loved it. She can eat a whole fruit if it and munch it deliciously. Since then whenever we eat anything we try to give her and check if she likes them. She'd eat a small ripe guava fruit, corn puffs, and many more. But there is one thing she truly hates, she hates celery. In chicken soups that my mother would cook, when she smelled the celery in there, she won't taste it. So i guess it's alright to feed them what we eat because she lived long and happy with us.

It is fine for me but I want to make sure first that it will not harm they're body. There are foods we eat that are harmful to them. And I don't want to make my pet in sick. So if it is okay to them, I will allow them to eat what I eat.

When I had my cat he was fed him a strict diet of wet or dry cat food. On occasion I'd gave him table food but I've also heard that giving cats or dogs too much table food can make them obese. Give them weight problems which can result in shorter life spans.

We have both a cat and a dog right now. Both of them are quite regulated on the amount of decent quality pet food they eat.

The cat has never shown any interest in people food, and I've even tried treating her when I open a can of tuna by giving her the juice from the can! She, unlike the cats I had while growing up, takes her time to drink it up. Almost as though she's reluctant to taste it lol.

Our dog on very rare occasions will get a bit of leftovers in his bowl, depending on what it is. He has a sensitive stomach, so we have to be careful of how much protein he gets. We also really have to regulate how much "people food" he gets or he tends to start thinking that he is entitled to any people food within reach. He's literally taken food from my toddler on the occasions where he's been treated too frequently. I would love to be able to give him more meat trimmings and leftovers at dinner time, but it is not ok in our house for the dog to steal food from owners, or off the table.

I think it depends on several factors. If you see that your pet's body is ok with any food and does not show negative effects then you can feed it with anything.
I am afraid to do this and I always buy special dog food because I don't want to risk it.
I made the last order from <!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;https://thepetsmaster.com/how-to-cook-marrow-bones-for-dogs/ and I was pleasantly surprised by how eager my dog ??ate. I am very happy to see him happy and I would do anything just to see that he is ok because he is like a child for me that I have to take the utmost care of.
