What Bizarre Foods have you tried? Can you eat insects and foul stinking food?

Are you familiar with the show bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern? He travels the world to taste the most bizarre food that a country can offer. I am amazed in what he is eating, unappetizing enough to say the least but its weird that i kind to like the show.

When I went to the Northern part of the country of my birth, I ate their soup called afang soup and in as much as it tastes quite weird, but I had to finish eating that to please her. I also ate snake soup while I was in the college and it was that sweet that I wish I can eat it almost every week!

Anywhere I have travelled, I have tried to acclimatize and eat what they eat since it does not kill them.

I've also had afang soup too. I guess we both come from the same country. It's the southern part, not the northern. The taste wasn't too strange cos i've eaten way worst than that in past times.

I alsso have eaten snake soup too, but it was by accident. Unlike you i didn't enjoy it and almost threw up my entire stomach when i got to know it was snake meat, i thought it was fish.

Well, let's see. Have you seen those Tequila bottles that come with a worm inside? yes, I had to drink/eat the little buddy. I lost a bet, sorry. Another bizarre food, a turtle soup. Not proud of it, and to be honest I didn't know I was eating that, I was cheated by the group of friends I was with, and I'm still doubting that was really a turtle soup. Finally, a very famous snack in the Amazon jungle, the ants that taste like peanut. They truly taste like roasted peanut, but not very tasty.

Maybe some of you have heared the famous or should I say infamous food of Philippines called "balot" or "balut" it is an egg of a duck usually aged 16, 17 and 18 days old boiled till its cooked, just add salt and pour some specially cooked spicy vinegar and its ready. You can usually buy these food in the streets of Philippines at night because most of the Filipino don't want to see the inside of "balut". I eat "balut" and its a very good example of the sayings don't judge by appearance because how it looks never describes how it taste.

I love Balot and it is my favorite street food. It is so delicious and so many Filipinos love this food. Haha exactly what they say everytime you eat is not to look whats inside cause this may cause you vomiting. This is one of the rare food in our country and it is simply delicious.

I went for a traditional marriage in one of the villages in the country and I was offered a food they called "Iman".I didn't know what to make out of this food.It looked so weird,I have never seen such food in my life.A black watery soup with a foo-foo like stuff to eat with it.

Just had a spoon and I thrown-up,In fact I almost vomited out my intestine.Weird looking food freaks me out.

I was offered a snack back in Hong Kong. If you like exotic food, Hong Kong is a place for you. You get to taste Turtle jellies, Seahorse soup, shark fin soup just to mention a few. But the thing that really drained my soul when I tasted it was a wine that has a dead snake soaked in it. It has a strong taste and aroma that my senses could not agree on. Asian food and medicines are somewhat bizarre, but really cleans your body.

I don't think I have ever eaten anything bizarre, to be honest with you. I have always wanted to try crocodile because there was a cooking programme once and they said that it tasted quite like chicken. So since then, I have always been quite curious to try it out. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to try it because I don't think they sell it over here in the United Kingdom. I stay away from any foul stinking food as well. If I am eating something, it has to look nice and smell nice

Hey guys, have you tried balut? It's a famous street food in the Philippines. Balut is a developing bird embryo that is boiled and eaten from the shell. As the description says, balut contains a developing bird embryo which means that when you open the shell, you will already see the beak and the feather of the bird. That may look disgusting but it tastes great though. That may be a biased opinion because I'm from the Philippines but really, it's delicious, especially if you sip the liquid inside of the egg. lol. In fact, it's been used in exotic food eating challenge in Survivor and Fear Factor! I highly recommend it.

I've tried balut! It's quite delicious and you can find them available locally from Asian grocery markets (at least some)! It tastes so rich and yummy and I enjoy the texture of of the "egg white" because it is a bit harder than usual.

What I can't get past is, like you described, the infant chick. You really can make out pretty much everything of the chick....which makes it a bit gruesome. I try to not look at it when I eat it, which happens very rarely anyways, and just enjoy the taste.

I remember how much I loved the food challenges in the TV show called Fear Factor. I think it was set in America but there were several competitors and one of the challenges was that they had to eat some really nasty food. Some of it was things like alive worms, maggots, eggs gone bad and more. I think that almost 80% couldn't manage to eat all of the food.

Anyway, the most bizarre food that I've tried so far was fried frog. It was in France. We decided to try one of the fancy restaurants and I tried frog legs. It was actually very delicious and tender. My friend even tried snails and he loved it.

Oh no! I would never do this not even for a good amount of money. I just don't have the stomach for such thing. I have seen the show and I think this man is crazy for being so brave and trying all these weird foods. It is definitely not a thing for everyone. You need to have a strong will to overcome the disgust.

I already eat a Balut in Philippines its good special if you put salt and vinegar much better if you gonna eat that using your hand. I also try a chicken feet or it we called it as a adidas i cant even know that the feet of the chicken can eat, but good.

Here in the Philippines, i think for us Balut is not exotic food anymore hahaha lol, you can found it anywhere specially at night.
Because for us Filipinos, Balut can give us energy specially those who work at night shift, sometimes Balut is their Midnight snack. We also eat frog but not just frogs in everywhere, we eat frogs that found in rice fields only. That is why those who lived in provinces always enjoyed eating frogs, but those who lived in cities most of them don't like to eat frogs.

Well, here in Romania we have 2 traditional meals that are called polenta and a kind of small sausages.

When I went to the countryside in Romania, I went to a small restaurant and they had a weird soup name so I decided to try it.
It had polenta in it and weirdly it tasted good.

I was in Malacca, malaysia for a family reunion trip. The restaurant served some good meaty dishes but a couple of them were wild boar meat, deer meat and rabbit meat. I didn't know these poor wild or tame animals were served on my table, honest, cross my heart! Until someone kept pestering for the waitress for an answer, everyone went eww, tried to throw up but too late, we had finished those exotic meats which we thought were chicken and pork.

Chiswa or kumbe kumbe are insects (ants)What Bizarre Foods have you tried? Can you eat insects and foul stinking food? that are usually harvested during the rainy season in the Western parts of Kenya, I found a community that eats them as a delicacy. It was weird to see people harvesting them and frying them to have them for dinner as a topping to other foods. Actually, I was dying to try them out, to say the least, they were very delicious.

I think I can eat that. I just hope that you make this with a good taste. I can't eat that if there are no other flavors aside from the taste of the bugs. As long as there's an added flavors on it, I can eat it not only these bugs but also any kinds of exotic food.

I am not really an adventurous eater but I think "Balut" is one the most bizarre foods that I have tasted. It is one of the famous street foods in the Philippines. It's quite delicious when its eaten hot paired with a little bit of salt and their special vinegar. Most of our foreign visitors are hesitant of tasting since Balut is boiled Bird embryo preferably duck but there are actually different varieties . The so called "Penoy" is recommended for people who doesn't want traces of the embryo, basically it is just the yolk and the white. If you want it more leveled up, try the 14- 21 days. It will surely quench your adventurous tongue.

When I went at the rural area near our town to visit a relative and stayed their for days I have tried eating a frog from mountain and it was fried. I find it disgusting at first but when I tasted it, it taste like chicken. I paired it with a bowl of fried garlic rice and dipped the fried frog in the soy sauce. It was very delicious. I wish I get to eat it again.

Many parts of our islands have eating habits of insects. Though, not all people doing such thing, for us it's a disgusted to eat insects. In some areas, they usually eat called "batod". It is insect that eating a dead coconut tree, sometimes they were considered a pest. In rural areas, the individuals usually eat insects, because in past histories, it caused by long hunger.
Insects are rich in protein, even the nutritionist and scientist suggested that, it will be a source of food in the future. The scientist, even said once; it should be consider the insect, as a food, I don't know what was the name of the scientist.

I will share something that happened to me; I was on a birthday and the food was Chicken soup, my sister and I hate soup so we didn't eat. We were starving and suddenly a woman says to us if we wanted to eat chicken pastelitos, that food is very common in my country so we of course agree and I have to admit the pastelitos were delicious after we ate like 10 of them my mom told us the pastelitos were of iguana. We didn't want to believe her but it was true.

Hell no not for me, some say that entomophagy (eating insects for food) is sometimes proposed as an alternative to factory farming because it has lower environmental impact. But entomophagy is not necessarily more humane than factory farming of livestock all things considered, and along some dimensions it's actually worse, because it involves killing vastly more animals per unit of protein. Rather than promoting insect consumption, let's focus on plant-based meat substitutes.

I don't know if you consider it bizarre but i think the bizarre food i really eat are animal intestines and balut cause it's a common street foods here in the philippines. And i always exprience being trapped on eating something without knowing what it is like the time that my uncle make us eat adobong bayawak ( iguana cooked in soy sauce and vinegar) without me knowing it. I thought it's chicken and it tasted like it so i ate it. After eating that's the time he tells us the truth. Also when i was a kid, my brother makes me eat dog, cat and field mice. I'm too little that time that i don't care much on what i'm eating and i was always told it's chicken. Here in the philippines some people really eat that. Well i know i just ate it one time but i'm kinda shy on admitting i ate those, cause honestly now, i really can't imagine myself eating dog, cat or mice. I love dogs so much and cats, i love having a pet hamster which is a family of mice so i think i might throw up if it will happen again.

I once ordered Chinese food nearby street. And I wanted to check out how their non veg food tastes. So instead of Chinese I ordered the food that spelled something different. So I wanted to try it. And then realized that it was one worm insect and they made chutney out of it. And it was kind of horrible in taste. I don't know how come they can eat. That's the best experiment I did and from there I don't want to experiment much anymore. So apart from that I decided to not much eat anything that is going around.

I think the only food that I ate with foul stinking smell is "DURIAN FRUIT" and I do really love it!. But I don't think so that I can handle to eat exotic foods especially if it is still moving. Like in China, Korea and or in Japan they eat small octopus alive and still moving I feel antsy looking at them on TV eating such so called exotic.

I have never tried to eat insects but my brother did. He once ate some fried wasps with his friends and told me he enjoyed eating them. They were crispy and he quite liked the taste. He wanted me to try which I completely refused as I can't imagine myself eating insects. The idea itself makes me sick. I once tried to eat jackfruit and totally hated it. The smell was terrible.

I haven't ever eaten anything too weird. I have had some foods at Japanese restaurants that might be considered bizarre to the average American, but nothing too crazy. I am from the south, and I haven't even tried the bizarre foods that come from around here. I try to keep an open mind, but I also have a really sensitive stomach. When I was a kid the school sent a note home to my mother telling her she had to pack my lunch because I kept getting sick in the lunchroom.

Yes, I have tried eating some bizarre foods, because there are many bizarre cuisine here in my country. I have already eaten insects, like beetles and mole crickets. The best thing in them is that, I personally caught them, I cook them, so it's really tasty for me since it's a product of my own work. As for the taste, there's no problem with it, it's good, really good, especially the mole crickets. I have also try eating rats, frogs and snakes. In here, these creatures are available in the market for a low price, so it's really affordable for the people. That's also why there are many of us who eats bizzare foods normally. For me, smell really makes the food special, but I don't really care for it, as long as the taste of the food is great. Please don't judge the food by its look and smell.

What Bizarre Foods have you tried? Can you eat insects and foul stinking food?

I haven't tried eating insects yet (except for live mosquitoes that enter my mouth. LOL) but I tried eating a balut. Balut is a famous bizarre food in the Philippines. It's duck egg where there is already a dead fetus inside it and yes, you will eat that fetus. Disgusting right? But believe me, this is very delicious and healthy! One tip when eating this egg, break a small porting of the shell and sip the soup inside it before you break the whole egg. Bon Apetite!

I super love eating Balut. I can eat 4 of them. The soup is so amazing and the taste of the duck embryo is so appetizing. I also love adobo sa balut. I also love chicken, pork intestine bbq. I've tried to eat crocodile also and I'm curious of the taste of Tamilok (large worm found in the dead wood). Hope to have a chance to taste it.

I can't imagine that I have eaten a worm!
I was so young back then when me and my cousins are playing hide and seek in their backyard. We saw a Big chunk of coconut wood that was cut 1 week earlier. I was disgusted by the sight of those lumpy, white coconut tree worms crawling in it, so I moved away and continued playing with my cousins. Not knowing that our eldest cousin is busy collecting them. Finally! Bon Appetit! It's time for lunch and we are so happy to eat together. What was served were rice, clear hot bangus soup and the brownish "fried coconut worms", I'm not exactly sure what it's called. I don't want to eat them but they really convinced me to do so. In all fairness, it was delicious. It taste like chicken.

I don't do insects or exotic foods that badly mix one article of food with another. About as exotic as it gets for me, is a dessert I make during the holidays where I mix crushed cheesecake in a bowl with Baskin Robbins chocolate chip ice cream, and vanilla or banana flavored instant pudding. Then it's all topped with crushed reeses pieces peanut butter cups.

I went to Cambodia and tried different kinds a grubs such as larvae, spiders and scorpions. It was not that bad and it actually tastes like soft oily peanuts.

I live in the Philippines and I should say that Balut is so overrated. First of all, it is not indigenous to the Philippines. China and Vietnam also have their version of the Balut. If you really want to try the weirdest food in the Philippines, you should try Hotdogs with Rice.

Kidding aside, It is very nice to try different kinds of food. The weirder, the better. Because weirdest food reflects the countries culture.

Yes. I tried eating some bizzare foods. Tamilok is one of it, in our province in Cebu, Philippines. It's like a worm in a dead wood. Tamilok is very rare now in our province because other people make profit from getting it. The Restaurant owners served Tamilok as there exotic food, ranging 500-600 pesos per plate. It's kind of expensive nowadays.

I've tried an insect once in my life, it was a small grass hopper looking thing. It came in a plastic bag and I ate it at an airport as a kid thinking it was sculpted chocolate candy for some reason. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever tasted but, the texture was disgusting. I want to try more insects and bugs and I know I will be grossed out, I just want to for the experience and who knows maybe I'll like them. I want to also try the disgusting fruit Duran, people say it smells like garbage and tastes terrible. I have never smelt or eaten Duran and I want to try it, if I like it awesome, if I don't my friends will get a funny video of me puking. Either way is a win win for me.

I love chilled jellyfish salad; a Cantonese delicacy usually served in afternoon tea houses. It's got a chewy, crunchy texture that's almost like chewing a rubber band. In fact, my parents said it was a "rubber band" when they introduced it to me as a kid. Why they thought that would make me eat it, I don't know. It doesn't sound tasty, but it is! It's usually marinated in vinegar, soy sauce, and sesame oil. It can be quite addicting!

I think the worst would be eating a fetus! Like literally! Please correct me if I am wrong but I have heard that in some parts of China, people divulge in eating this kind of thing, though I do not know if it's true or not. If this kind of thing would be part of Fear Factor and I was a contestant, hell no! I would die first before I could do that! The most bizarre food that I only ate in my entire life is the Balut (duck egg with embryo). It is a nutritious boiled egg from the Philippines and it tastes like a boiled chicken egg, only, there's this little duckling on the side. Most foreigners who would try it cringe when you see the baby duck inside it, but it really tastes good for me. Other than Balut, I wouldn't eat anything bizarre because I does not sit well with my mind to eat anything other than the normal stuff we do serve our families with. There are numerous bizarre foods here in the Philippines like the frogs, snakes, locusts, corcodiles, monitor lizards and many more.

I have watched Andrew Zimmern. However, I don't think I can eat bizarre foods such as insects or foul stinking foods. The most bizarre food I have ever tried is rat meat. There is a community in my town that enjoy hunting rats and eating rat meat with home brewed beer and wine. During the winter, when the rice is harvested, they go on rat hunting. They smoke the holes and kill rats. They roast the rat on a campfire and salt and other spices. In the beginning, I did not feel like eating rat, however, after few bites, I found the taste pleasing.

In the country where I live, they offer all types of wild animal roasted meats, and they are very expensive. So for example, you could have zebra, lion, antelope or giraffe meat. This is a delicacy and it is served to tourists as part of the countries cuisine.

We have a big problem, in my country with,'fake ' beef. Many butchers claim they are selling cow meat yet they are selling donkey, cat or dog meat. I have probably eaten any one of these meats without knowing. As the saying goes what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

I would ask what is bizarre food?Did our ancestors only eat cow meat?I don't think so, they ate any meat they could get their hands on. Another man's rubbish is another man's treasure.

The 2 most bizarre foods that I've eaten was balut and pork brain. Balut is a filipino delicacies while the pork brain is a unique foods that is rarely been eaten here. It might seem a bit odd, but being that eating pork brain is a pretty normal aspect of my culture, I actually don't consider it to be a bizarre food. I can see how others would find it weird, but I actually think pork brain is really good. When prepared right it's a really unique dish with an actually pleasant flavor, but I can understand that the texture and concept is hard to get past for some people. I'd like to try balut just to be able to say I tried it, but I don't know if I could stomach it. Maybe the flavor is good, but once again it's just the concept I'd probably have trouble with.

I haven't eaten any bizarre or even exotic foods yet and probably would never try one if it has some nasty smell or odor as my nose was kinda sensitive and quite picky in terms of food. I usually tend to smell of food and I'm quite proud to say that my nose is quite keen on smelling food that might be close to being spoiled or moldy already. I have eaten quite a lot of balut which is a developing bird embryo (usually a duck) that is boiled and eaten from the shell as its one of my favorite street snacks and probably the most popular one on the streets at night.

I used to live in Brooklyn, New York and we had a small neighborhood which we considered to be Brooklyn's Chinatown. There, you could buy all sorts of interesting foods that you wouldn't typically find in your local supermarket, but nothing that was absurdly out of the ordinary.

Some of the oddities that I've eaten included snake, armadillo, alligator, shark and turtle. To be honest most of them tasted like fishy chicken. I'm yet to try any sort of insects but I'm definitely interested as I've heard good things.

I will definitely try this one. I love discovering new flavors of foods or should I say exotic foods. Because I believe that even though a food has a foul stinky odor, some of them are delicious once you taste it. I eat some foul stinky foods like "abnoy". It is like a rotten egg. Even though it is not good on the nose, once you taste it, you will definitely love it.

I've seen the show with zimmerman a few times. His got a very patient and accepting appetite in the weirdest way possible. I can't even to picture myself eating some of those strange looking meals he eats every now and then during the course of the show. I hope the show pays well.

The weirdest food i've ever eating is okpanku, a meal served in the south-east part of my country. The meal is literally served with small snails, i mean it's served with the snails exactly the way they are with their shells intact. I never should have placed the order. I just couldn't eat and made a full of my self in front of my host.

I've also mistakenly eating snake meat once thinking it was fish.

There are some insects which comes out during the rainy season. I have forgotten the English name but they always fly around. I have ever eaten them when fried and they never tasted good but people eat them.

I have also ever eaten bamboo meat. My father loves it. It has the worst smell ever. I don't even understand how my father manages to swallow it.

I'm not sure if you can call cow's brain a bizarre delicacy but it's one of my latest food discoveries. I was shocked at the level of cholesterol that I could get just by eating 100 grams of cow's brain but I figure that it's something my body can still tolerate at my age. My dad who grew up in the countryside loved to eat fried locusts and other insects but I don't really like to eat insects. I've eaten and enjoyed snails cooked in coconut milk when I was a child and though I would love to have a taste of it again, I wonder where I can buy clean ones.

My mom and I were traveling in Luzon. I forgot what part of Luzon but we were invited by saints. They made us try their foods and one of them is a frog. It was really disgusting to me, like really. So I just ended up asking for a hot sauce and luckily they had and I put huge amounts of hot sauce over the frog that I'm about to eat. When we traveled to Singapore, we were invited to a fancy looking restaurant. I didn't expect for them to put frogs in our order. They served us fried frogs, which are savory and disgusting, but less disgusting than the other.

Omg this is disgusting .I would never try these eggs...
I certainly like to buy exotic subscription boxes, but it seems to me that this is already too much...

It really doesn't look very appetizing...
I like to eat strange food, such as very spicy delicious food, or some Asian food, but not such dried cockroaches!
I usually take the subscription boxes with such food and try it. It is expensive, but I use discounts on subscription boxes and it turns out quite profitable.
damn these eggs look like a failed experiment on a chicken... I probably wouldn't have eaten such an egg for any money.
But dried cockroaches maybe I would try , but just a little bit and definitely not now, but later! My friend tried dried cockroaches and he said that they look like not overcooked seeds, lol
